Twilight Zone reference

The mailman breaking his glasses while reading Twilight Zone Magazine was an homage to the "Time Enough at Last" episode of the original Twilight Zone series. Burgess Meredith played a bookworm who was the sole survivor of a nuclear holocaust. He gathered all the books from the bombed out library and prepared to read in peace for the rest of his life, only to have his glasses slide off his nose and break.

Yes!  That was a great reference.  But did they really have to hammer it in by
adding the Twilight Zone theme to it?

For those who immediately got the reference, they might have found the theme annoying. For probably most of the viewers, the theme helped to know what it was from.

This is a great example of how they've dumbed down the show.

Regarding this joke, it was a nice parody, and the episode (despite that I didn't like most of it) did have a few nice parodies that for once weren't pointed out too much. But I agree, this was pointed out to much. The music didn't bother me so much, but the Twighlight zone magazine thing felt unneccasary.

I will say, though, that I'm also glad to see a Twighlight Zone parody again. Despite that there used to be one in every season, there hasn't been a Zone parody other then this in ages.

I honestly don't think they do. I honestly think they get too many complaints from the "network people" who claim the show is too vague at times for the masses to feel comfortable watching regularly. So they have to dumb it down like the Twilight Zone theme or when Lisa points out that there's "no cane in Citizen Kane"...
