Why do they cut the best parts in syndication?

Often, the best parts of which you speak aren't integral to the plot (that doesn't always save them from the editing, um, machine), so if they have to shave time off they'll be the first to go - recently, they've been using compression more, and scenes are cut because of their content (the Ralph Nader appearance in DABF01, probably)...of course there are some cut parts that aren't a great loss, so you have to give them a little credit.
