I was just wondering what Sideshow Bob's motive would have been when he tried to kill Selma (or was it Patty? who cares... same difference)? Trying to frame Krusty was understandable, trying to kill Bart was also understandable, but I can't figure out why Selma (or Patty)?
Bart doesn't particularly like Patty & Selma it seems (even though he did save her), so there isn't really any motive....
What are other people's thoughts on this?

Since this was only the second SSB episode, he hadn't yet tried to kill Bart. He might have started out his pen-relationship with Selma separately from any ideas of revenge, but perhaps once he realized she was related to him figured this would be a good way to get out and get back at him...perhaps he figured killing a relative of Bart might make him suffer more than if he were to kill Bart himself - although Selma isn't his favorite relative, Bob might not have known that, or might have figured it would still create some despair in the family. Or it might be the money. Who knows? Check the capsule to see if anyone else gave insights (before Cape Feare aired, that is, since we're looking at it from an enlightened perspective as to SSB's ploys).
