We had a discussion about contradictions previously on the show. Here's one that really get's my goat. When Abe is recalling his days with the fighting (flying) hellfish, he talks about his platoon, which includes Seymour Skinners Dad, who looks very much like his son Seymour Skinner, except that he's not really skinner is he, he's Arman Tanzarian, yet Skinner senior could be his twin??? Keeps me thinking, them simpsons do.

Yeah, but I always saw that episode as Abe's recollection of his experiences during WW2 seen through the imagination of Bart (who up until that point chronologically, didn't know that Seymour Skinner was actually Arman Tanzarian).
That is an interesting interpretation. Not just to explain the inconsistency, but in itself. I took it literally, and some of it does seem a bit odd. (Actually, some of the oddness is how Burns, who I thought would already be rich, is in the army, let alone a lowly private.) But if you're hearing a story, you make up the pictures in your mind and it would make sense that Bart would picture familiar people in those roles.

Being rich didn't necessarily keep you from service (ie, the Kennedy's). Back then, it was considerded cowardice not to enlist. They took it so seriously that a great many people who were 4F'ed (determined unfit to serve) committed suicide...
Exactly, that's just my personal explanation as to why all the supposed "fathers" looked exactly like their sons (Barney, Skinner and Wiggum). I mean, it obviously wasn't indicated either way, which left it open to the viewer's interpretation...
But it's not why is someone rich in the army, but if Burns is rich, wouldn't there be a better capacity for him somewhere else?
I am assuming he was already rich, through his guardian or uncle who took him away, but (except for the age inconsistencies) he'd be in his forties, and presumably already becoming a titan of industry.
If he was so great, I would think he'd stay out of the army because he was in some vital industry, or his business skills were needed somewhere else on the warfront. Even if he volunteered or was drafted, surely there were better places for him than just a lowly private. There were all those entertainers who went in, but then spent the war, in uniform, but doing some entertainment type job. Or business types who landed at the Pentagon, in uniform, but managing personel or acting as liasion to industry.
Have we ever seen much of the origins of Burns' wealth? We see snippets of when he was very young, and not only did he want to be rich but he seemed to want the power too. But we don't see much of him as a tycoon except in his later years at the power plant.
My comments about Burns in the Hellfish episode count on him already being rich by the war, and having some skill beyond scheming.

Too many different age references in other episodes to provide an accurate age for that one story. So you really have no idea how old he is during that WW2 story except for approximations based on how he was drawn, which is also left up to interpretation especially considering how many different ways there are to interpret the flashback viewpoint.
He wasn't a lowly private, remember. He was busted down to private for obstructing a probe from J. Edgar Hoover. I don't recall his rank before this happened.

One, you weren't discussing what amuses you in the show, you were telling us of how a little error in the show annoys you, and then as I pointed out how silly such discussions are, I was greeted with a tirade of abuse, aimed directly at me, your attempt to pull me down and claim that I am an idiot and that I should shut up. Two, I do discuss what amuses me in The Simpsons, for I watch it to be entertained not to try and find opportunities to display to everyone how smart and observant I am by pointing out mistakes.
