One thing no-one seems to point out is that MG is from Portland, OR (or at least a suburb of it) and that Springfield is modeled on "the town just down the road" from Portland. This could indicate several places, Vancouver in WA, Troutdale, Boring, Salem, Springfield/Eugene for example. I'd figure Springfield is an amalgam of all these places.

The whole medicinal marijuana law for determining which state springfield is in is mute. The law was a local law, so it could be any state. Argueing that you could use thsi law to determine the state its in woudl be liek taking any other springfield specific artifact and tryign to locate it in the US, it just isn't how you go about solveing the mystery.

In that case it only solidifies the fact that it must be a made up place

A municipality can not make a law allowing something that the state has outlawed.

(Don't you love the way I play both sides of the issue? )
