It was on in syndication here today. I can see why I didn't bother to watch it when it first aired.

What episodes do you think are worse than NKOTB? I can think of:

"All Singing, All Dancing" "Supercalifrag..." and "Saddlesore Galactica"

I loved this episode.

Dunno much about nsync except that they're a pop fad, but spending the whole episode making fun of themselves was a good thing.

How could you soil the good name of Star Blitzz Promotions??

Hrm...when I said I didn't know much about nsync except that they were a pop fad, I should have made it clearer...I didnt know much about them except that they were an horrific, cultural nightmare of a pop fad.

That's why I was pleasantly surprised that, despite appearing in the episode as themselves, they spent the whole thing making fun of themselves, and allowing the show to make fun of them. I mean, the show spends 30 minutes mocking their celebrity, and basically calls pop fads to the floor, for being manipulative, cynically-produced hacks who are designed to "entertain" by basically just being arbitrarily famous.

Really surprised that they had enough of a sense of humor to play along. Good for them!

Right, except for the fact that there was also the shameless self-promotion. We were subjected to about 8 minutes of their ear-bleedingly awful music. So while the episode might have been making fun of the group, it was capitalizing on their popularity in spades. I don't ever remember a musical guest that actually had whole songs in an episode (usually you get fairly short clips, sometimes as background music). N'Sync was in the episode primarily to draw viewers who wanted to hear the music. Despite that and the music (Mute button comes in handy when the gorge starts rising in my throat) there were some good moments in this episode, my favorite being the Mad employee saying, "I actually feel better."

Also consider this: without N'Sync this episode could not have happened. In general, a musical guess might be part of the story, but this episode was basically an N'Sync commercial. When we saw Elton John, or the Who or R.E.M. or Aerosmith or Paul McCartney or the Ramones or Linda Ronstadt... (all of whom are actually musicians rather than the excretion of marketing weenies), they all might have been part of the story, but they were never the main thrust of the episode, nor was their music used for more than a short clip.

Hmmmmmmm. The only songs I remember were the Party Posse songs, which were of course parodies of empty pop ditties.

But then again, I never saw the original airing, I just saw a...um...."time-shifted" version that was umm NOT downloaded from the net, because of course that's real bad and stuff. And in that version, there was no actual nsync music.

Were there actual nsync songs played in the original airing? Because if that's so...i'd probably have to change my opinion. On the other hand, if you're taking about the Party Posse songs...they were great =p

I think people who hate this episode simply because N'Sync was on it need to pull their head out of their ass. What I wonder is that do these people hate N'Sync more or like the Show more? I really don't care about that group, but I don't go on hate rants over 'manufactured music', or whatever.

Personally, I thought the first two acts were hillarious, but it suffered from the worst third act in history. If it wasn't for the shit-tacular ending, this would've been the best episode of S12, or at least as good Trilogy of Error.

Members of 'NSync supplied the Party Posse's singing voices. So, technically, there were full 'NSync songs on the show, but I doubt they'll be appearing on any 'NSync albums anytime soon; they were jokes.

They were doing self-depreciation gags that were old before the band existed.

But they were still doing them. And most of the jokes weren't recycled, unless you define it as generally as "making fun of their own fame."

Point is, none of the reasons that you might rightly despise NSync were actually presented in a good light, in the show.

Dislike the episode if you want, but if you want to see an episode where a glorified pop musician gets fawning, kid glove treatment, look back to the Michael Jackson episode, not New Kids on the Blechh.

NO, you did not see this episode today. Fox pulled it from syndication because they blow up a building in New York. You saw something else.

It was NOT pulled. 20th Television has only ADVISED stations of the content of this and the New York City episode, since stations air episodes in whatever they choose.

Definitely have to agree with the others that this is a great episode. The plot pulled together (and it was smart too), the lyrics of those songs were hilarious, there really wasn't much wrong with that episode. If they can pull that caliber episode out of their asses now that would be a miracle.

Actually, I think there wasn't much RIGHT with that episode,... it was easily one of the weakest in a very long time... Everything about it seemd so contrived,.. i can see the writers sitting rounf in a meeting room going "Whats a good idea,.. Hey, what if we had Bart and the kids in a boy band!, yeah!, that would be funny!, and we could get someone like N'Sync on the show!...." Then they slap on the stupid plot device about the whole thing being a ploy to get people to join the Navy,...

It was horrible, actually.....

Gawd I miss hte days of Kamp Krusty, Deep Space Homer, etc., back when the writing was still fresh and truly creative,...

The sad thing is, that was a weak episode, but it was almost genius compared to a lot of the stuff they've been spewing in the last couple of years,....

Any episode can be broken down like that to make it sound stupid.

"Hey, why don't the kids go to summer camp, but it's really bad. And then they slap on a stupid plot device about Bart becoming like an indian warrior.

Disclaimer: I don't think the previous two described episodes were bad in any way, I'm just pointing out that any episode can easily be broken down into one or two sentences that can cast it in a rather dim light.
