I've always wondered if that might be a reference to the great soul singer, Al Green. If memory serves, he was once treated to a generous dollop of hot grits fresh off the stove and directly to his bare back as he lounged in his bathtub. I believe the server of the grits was his rather irate wife. Anyone who has ever dined on grits will know that they hold their heat for a looooooooooooooooong time.
