can anybody explain duties of writer, director, etc.

I've always wondered what exactly each person does, such as the writers, the directors, producers, executive producers, and so on... thanks.

Writers write the scripts.

Directors are basically responsiple for control of all artistic creation, and basically "direct" everything such that, in the case of a cartoon, it all has a uniform feel and look.

Producers are responsible for the production/business end of the production... generally, these are the ones on the phone all day long arguing about things. They can be scary people.

Executive producers are generally the senior producer on a show, and as well, network executives are often credited as "executive producers" (If you've seen any of the simpsons gags about network execs, or happen to be Canadian and have seen the show "Made In Canada", these are largely accurate repersentations... ;))

Which is why their jobs aren't recognized by the Academy Awards as award-worthy. They move money and get things done. An important job, but not as creative as the other award recipients.

They're the business-men(people) and the administrators. Generally, the creative aspects are left to others... that being said, if they believe that by sticking their noses into the creative end, it will generate better revenue, or improve the business end, generally, they do...

In this case, the Simpsons writer are mostly top-notch Ivy-League scholars that do come up with material they feel would appearl to the audience watching the show (and care less for how it turns out as long as the animators could stop throwing in gags on their own).

With the exception of the first few seasons this is tree. We'll never forget Wes Archer's fondness for the "twister mouths" he used to throw in many episodes he's done.

Always have that typical image in my brain they would sit at their desks with their feet proped on top of it, while reading Variety and smoking a stogie (I assume this image doesn't exist as much anymore). Many of the previous directors of the show went on to this position in their years on the show.

I'm probably the only one in this NG that has seen "Made In Canada", but lives in the US anyway! (I can get the CBC on cable, but I don't find myself lying in the living room with the CFL Draft on the boob tube)
