I don't know the guy, but I do know something else a bit significant: this is the third episode of the Simpsons to parody the title of Ernest Hemingway's novella "The Old Man and the Sea." Here are the others: "The Old Man and the Lisa" "The Old Man and the 'C' Student" (Who is the 'C' student, BTW?)
