Mr. Spritz Goes To Washington

EABF09 ('Mr Spritz Goes To Washington') just aired here in Australia.

I'm one of the many who decries that The Simpsons has sucked for many years (I actually pinpoint it back to Season 8, which is when I think it started to go downhill) but this episode was just brilliant.

Of course, I study politics at University, so I might have enjoyed it more than others (Homer bursting into Congress drunk yelling "You call this a bicameral system?" lol) so I was wondering... am I alone in thinking this episode was the best episode in a long time? Or was this episode a great laugh for everyone?

(Addendum: Actually, I'll say this was the best episode since 'Papa's Got A New Badge' which I also quite enjoyed. Prior to that, there hadnt been a decent episode in ages).

I still say it was "Who Shot Mr. Burns" that was the start of the downfall. After that episode, the show was never consistent, and it slowly went from good stories and character development (aside from being subversively funny, clever, et cetera) to being a machine to cram gags and force cultural references down our throats--not to mention jokes which use words directly as "penis," "wang," and "boner" to name a few. I'm not saying that I'm against those words (or base humor for that matter), but The Simpsons never used to have to resort to such cheap tactics to get a laugh.

Unfortunately, even in a dog of an episode, there can be one priceless line that you can repeat to the grave.

That's why we still watch, but even one good line doesn't make up for a wholly otherwise unsatisfying episode of a show that used to be so Goddamned glorious.

I agree with this post. Also, the last few seasons have REALLY gone heavy on the gay jokes. It's not that a lot of them aren't funny, it's just such an easy way to go for laughs that it indicates that the writing staff just aren't doing as good a job anymore. The show used to be about political and social satire, not cheap laughs.

Personally I also liked Mr. Spritz, and thought it was one of the best in a while at the time, and one of the few hits in season 14 up to that point.

My attitude is they're still good for 2-3 quality episodes a season..... the rest is shit.

I'd narrow that down to 1 great episode, maybe two episodes that are funny for about 15 minutes, and the rest is shite.
