Today's episode

Does anyone have any idea what today's episode will be about, other than acid rain and television antennas?

I don't know..but does it have Metal Munching Mice from Mars in it? That's a Rocky and Bullwinkle set of episodes..where the mice eat all the TV antennas, thus driving the townsfolk to boredom and craziness.. Could be the inspiration. Or not.

Tonights episode seems to be a continuation of the time Homer and Ned went and got married in Las Vegas. Maybe you can call it recycling but I like it when the Simpsons bring up storylines from the past. Hopefully this one is another winner....

That was a very small part of the show that bridged one theme to the other, and there was no commentary by Lisa. Nelson giving the owl a noogie while chanting "Stop Endangering yourself" was great; as was the three eyed fish being eaten by a four eyed fish, which was eaten by a six eyed fish, only to be eaten by Homer. Genius.

If a theme is reused and is still funny, what's the problem. Jeez, "Malcom In The Middle" uses this theme every freaking week, judging from the commercials.

I thought that tonight's show was the funniest one I've seen in years. Bringing in Homer and Ned's Vegas wives was completely unexpected and completely hilarious (especially the making of the sandwich "Ohh baby! Use both hands!") I haven't seen an episode with as many belly laughs since the episode were Lisa turns vegetarian. I know that I sound like an ass kisser, but it's been awhile since I've enjoyed an episode after only one viewing.

Also, not many episodes have included many secondary characters lately , and this one was packed with them. When was the last time we saw Grandpa and Groundskeeper Willie? The Simpsons used to be "The Bart Show". Over the years it's become "The Homer Show". This episode was "The Entire Family Show", and it showcased the strengths of the different characters. In fact, now that I think of it, another standout episode was another "Entire Family" episode; when they hide out in the south (after Homer challenges the wrong man to a duel) and "kill" the alligator.

I will conclude with another brilliant line from tonight's show: A drunken Homer comments on his children, calling them "Bart, the "girl Bart" and the one that doesn't talk much.

I thought the duel episode was where the family hides out on the old Simpson family farm and Homer invents Tomacco. I think the alligator episode was a different one.

Ugh! "Kill the Alligator and Run" was one of the worst episodes! And BTW, the episode where Homer challenges people to a duel is "E-I-E-I- [annoyed grunt]". After 280 episodes, it's easy to mix things up.

I didn't like this episode much at all. It was filled with references and some funny jokes (Nelson with the spotted owl; Marge having a problem with a top hat being a landlord), but the pacing was all wrong. The Simpsons needing a social worker? It's been done before from two different angles; doing it from a third angle isn't necessarily bad. BUT: Needing a social worker (who leaves at the end of Act 2) AND seeing Homer's second wife from "Viva Ned Flanders" again? If the entire episode were about the conflicts caused by Marge's discovery that Homer is a bigamist, that might be a good idea. But adding it to the social-worker idea is bad, IMHO. Add to this the fact that we had another latter-day example of using Act 1 to be something almost wholly unrelated to the "main" plot, and you had a mish-mosh that had some ideas that might be good if they could have been fleshed out, but turned out lousy because there was no plot. (Or, more accurately, there were too many attempted plots.)

Homer's "Blue Man Group" rant from "Trilogy of Error" is better, IMO.

I have been a fan since the start, I mean the real start on Tracy Ullman. I would sit through her 30 mins of self therapy just to catch a couple of seconds of the Simpsons, so I think I have a nice pedigree. Having said that I really must say that as of late ( I would say starting with season 11) each ep just has a feeling of being scattershot and filled with a lot of unrelated events just to fill the requisite 24 minutes. No real hard laughs like before, sure some chuckles, but no lasting impressions that stick in your mind for a couple days after. It seems that more and more after the ep ends I look over to my wife and she looks back with a look of I guess you would call it incredulity or maybe bewilderment is a better word. It is just a kind of "what WAS that?" mentality and there have been times when it was just unpleasant to watch and almost uncomfortable. I will still watch, I love 'em they are like family but I guess, just like in real life, sometimes even family just has to go.
