Just like the Bible! I think it was in the episode where Maude died that Ned said that he "does all the stuff that contridicts the other stuff" in the Bible. Come on, how's that possible?

Ned

Ned

Ever sat down and read The Bible; Technically we're not even allowed to go to the bathroom!

This statement is very satirical on many levels. Not being allowed to go to the bathroom, and, according to the Bible, not being allowed to have sexual urges, or at least keep them under control, means that the Bible advocates suppressing all of the essential mental and physical processes that modern Science tell us that human beings are normally supposed to have!

go

it's also true - you're supposed to go one mile out of town and do it in a hole you cover up or something similar.

And obviously, it was for the benefit of a society without running water and toilets and such. The laws governing how to dispose of human waste in the Bible were actually well ahead of their time; today it's taken for granted not to have fecal matter in the immediate living environment, but it wasn't something people thought about back then.

Today, toilets have eliminated the need for following the instructions given to the Israelites ... but if you live in a developing land without sewage disposal those instructions may just save your life. Also good to keep in mind on camping trips.

Yeah but the real reason they did that was because they thought God wouldn't be able to watch them go potty. Oh those silly Christians.

They must have been rather silly Christians if Christ wouldn't be born for another 1200 years.

You know, the Beatles solved the problem of performing your bodily functions and satisfying your sexual urges with one sentence: "Why don't we do it in the road?".
