Haystacks Calhoun was a professional wrestler from the 1950's to 1970's who was known for his tremendous weight (he was listed as weighing 601 pounds, although he's really 450 to 600 pounds). During his tenure as a wrestler, he won the tag team belts in both the NWA and WWWF (now known as WWE). He died of diabetes on December 7, 1989.

Eloise is a girl, who, in a series of books, lived in the Plaza, a luxurious hotel located in New York City. Eloise first appeared in 1955, with her appearing in five books (the most recent being released in 2002).

The cockroaches in in the couch bit refers to an urban legend involving sleazy hotels. The story goes like this: a person checks in the room at a hotel for the night. That night, the person has a good night sleep after sleeping on a "vibrating". He is so impressed by it that he wants to know the secret of the bed. So, he then checks the bed and, to his horror, discovers that the vibrations were actually caused by cockroaches roaming around inside mattress.

1936 Olympics - Abe Simpson was a javelin thrower at the 1936 Olympics. In the episode footnoted below, Hitler was upset when Jesse Owens won four Gold medals at the 1936 Olympics. Hitler had apparently survived WWII, was in the audience at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, and was also upset when Bob Beamon won the long jump there.
