'Tis the 15th Season: Am I the only one?

Is it just me, or does the voice of the Astrolabe sound remarkably similar to that of Snake? I was thinking this every time it spoke, and then when Snake stole it at the end, I thought, "Oh, what delightful irony!"

Then again, I may just be off my rocker.

Overall, I liked the episode. Reminded me a lot of HOMR (easily one of my top 10) with all the animation gags and homages. Not nearly as many quotable lines, but great stuff nonetheless, and a great Christmas episode. I think The Simpsons just might be on the upswing in season 15.

Ever since I saw the "Actor's Studio" thing with the Simpson's voice actors, and saw and heard them in character, I find it is a lot easier to identify who is voicing what infrequent character.

Hank Azaria, IMO, has the least range of all the Simpsons main cast (seconded overall only by that horrible bitch goddess Tress MacNeille). With so many characters who sound so similar, Azaria ironically the WORST CAST MEMBER EVER.

No way...that is GREAT range...Just look at all the characters and think how different each one sounds.

Azaria and MacNeille, like all the cast members, are incredibly versatile. I suspect you've only noticed a couple of their characters that are similar without realizing there are many others they voice that do sound different.

At the table read I attended, Azaria had to switch characters continually because he was playing the main "guest" character (Frank Grimes) as well as his regular characters. He did this effortlessly. And Tress MacNeille filled in for Julie Kavner. She voiced "Marge" perfectly. I was told later that she's done Marge's voice for broadcast, also.

I don't think that's a problem at the actual recording sessions because, I think, they record each part separately. I'm not sure, though.
