Homer and pennants

Ever notice how homer holds up a pennant for almost anything. Like a pennant that says "sweeps" on it or something. Is this just a running joke, or is there something behind it?

I noticed it's been happening for the last while now. I think it's great. My fave is the teddybear holding the "showgirls" pennant.

the pennants are possibly my favorite running gag on the show. i've managed to compile a list with help from others in the ng. let me know if i've missed any.
