What is the significance of Bart's tattoo

Bart wants to get "Mother" but when Marges catches him in the tattoo parlor all he has done is "MOTH" and she like freaks out... Maybe I was too young when this ep came out but is that some gang or something?? Or does she just freak out because he's getting the tattoo in the first place? Any ideas people? :)

also, what kind of mall has a tattoo parlor in it? geez man

I pretty much assumed she was freaking out that a 10y/o was getting a tattoo ... What kind of lame name for a gang would MOTH be? Any "MOTH" members reading, please don't shoot me.

Are we familiar with the term "suspension of disbelief"? :P

Only 1 in a Chapter's bookstore. Starbucks doesn't seem very big up here. The only ones I know of are in the aforementioned bookstore. We have other coffee shops though.
