Upcoming Episodes...will be delayed

None of the online TV listings have been updated for September 23 yet, and next week Fox is showing "Independence Day", so Upcoming Episodes will be delayed by a day or two.

(In case you really need to know what's on tonight: most of the eastern half of the country won't get a Futurama because of a Fox football doubleheader, and those cities that do will get "War Is The H-Word"; The Simpsons will be "Tennis the Menace".)

While I've got the space, here's a quick rundown of the October Sunday baseball schedule:

October 7 - all four division playoffs have a game scheduled that day; the two National League series have game 5, and the two American League series have game 4 (all of which are "if necessary", but if any series is still playing, there will be a night game - and even if all four series end before Sunday, as happened in 1996, Fox would show some filler like "When Futurama Fans Attack" as they wouldn't have enough time to advertise that their regular schedule was on that night)

October 14 - American League Champion Series game 4 is a night game

October 21 - World Series Game 2 is a night game

October 28 - World Series Game 7, if necessary, is a night game

Oh well. I guess I'll have to download THIS season too.... Friggin' American pastime.....

CBS - Fox doesn't show new Futurama episodes, much less season premieres, when it's a Fox NFL doubleheader day. Now since football has started up, I can now ask my annual football question: <rant on>

Why does it take 20 minutes to play the last @##$!!! 4 minutes of a football game?

As an example: At 6:58pm EST, the clock had 4:12 on it, at 7:18pm EST, it still had 0:32. What gives? I know there are time-outs and whatnot, but gimme a break!

Actually if they win enough games, they advance to the play-offs, where they get to play and get paid extra for another game. If they win that one they advance to the next round of the playoffs, getting paid extra to play that game to. And on to the Super Bowl, where they are seen world wide and get a really big paycheck for that game. So they do get something useful if they win enough games, a lot more money. And more money is always useful, no matter how much you get paid. That's one reason why the players are all so eager to win.

It's called "commercials". They literally stop the game every five minutes towards the end for commercials. Most networks would run the deleted show at a later time, but not FOX..... They do it for those crappy Soap Operas......

Sorry Chachi But that's up to your individual Affiliate. FOX doesn't stop them from running Futurama at 11:30pm instead of an infomercial when it gets bumped by football. The affiliate makes more money with the infomercial though. You should go to your local station and ask them to re-run bumped shows. It's their choice not FOX.

Does Fox run a 10 O'clock news program where you live? They don't here in Tucson. After nine O'clock it is all local programming, re-runs and syndicated stuff. In fact they don't have any news shows normally, neither a local or a national news show like NBC, ABC, and CBS do.

Tucson is what Mountan Time? The Central and Mountan people are on a totaly diffrent system from the Eastern and Pacific big markets. Although you have the bonus of living in the only comfortable climate in the continental US.

Yes, although it's just about the worst news program in the area. One at five, six, nine, and an hour-long broadcast at ten. I remember one time when one corespondent was at a murder scene dressed as a pimp. Big purple hat with a long feather, purple pin-striped suit. At all other times he dresses like a gangster from the 30's. No joke! And this was no where near Mardi Gras or Halloween....

I always thought TEVO just used the VCR+ program code. Which to my knowledge does nothing about offset schedules and for me has never acurately started and stopped a show when it was supposed to.

But I think that relies on the online program guide it uses...which would not reflect a late start of a show. So I think it would still start recording whenever it was scheduled to start. It does help if they show it at a special time or on an extra night or something...it knows that and will record it.

I'd bet on it but The odds would be too close to make any money and here's why, They use all their time outs at the end of a game stretching the last 5 min out to an absurd amount.and leaving a lot of time for more commercials.

I know that the team is more likely to take a timeout at the end, but that isn't an insidious corporate plot. I think the assertion was that the TV timeouts increase at the end (play stoppages solely for the sake of Tide/Volkswagen/Viagra).

Here are a couple of interesting sports observations that I've seen reported over the years.

A regulation pro football game runs 60 minutes, but takes about 180 minutes (3 hours) to play. Even more surprising is that the football is actually in play only about 23 minutes.

The stats on baseball are even more lopsided toward inactivity! During the average baseball game, which takes about 2 and a half hours to play, the ball is "live" for only about 9 minutes!

Yet, both sports have perceived entertainment value for millions of people and thus can "get away with it!"

That's one reason why I tape most sports that I watch and use my "Fast Forward" to edit out all of those distractions. Nobody actually walks to first base in MY games--I always make them run like Pete Rose!

For normal 30 minute shows, there is 22 minutes of shows and 8 minutes of advertising, but in football, every 30 minutes has 8 minutes of football (and most of that is them sitting there scratching their butts), and the other 22 minutes is commercial.
