It wasn't a great episode. But it had its moments. The Sony and Cher "I Got You Babe" montage was one of my favorites. I'd just like to take this opportunity to point something out before the posts lambasting this episode and claiming that it "demonstrates the utter depths to which the show has sunk" pour in. The negativists on the message boards are always whining that Homer has become so stupid and insensitive and boorish. Well here we have an episode that actually portrays Homer as a not-so-bad fellow. In the 1st act Homer is concerned about finding a Mother's Day gift for Marge. He gives Patty and Selma a compliment. And in the 3rd act Homer shows his sensitive side when he helps the bear and subsequently becomes friends with the bear (I wonder if the bear is related to the bears who befriend Maggie way back in Season 1). He shows that he cares for nature's creatures and helps the bear escape to a wildlife preservation. (the sight gags with the dead fish and the elephant were in poor tast and kind of contradict all this, but if we take them as simply sight gags and not reality, then all's well).
Oh, and Lisa as an Octopus/Country Western Elvis was prety cute!
