Many of us find the new episodes poor and of a much lower standard than the old episodes, but I wonder, if the show was too return to it's roots and do things the old fashioned way would it still be popular in today's world?

Honestly, don't think that the show can go back to its roots while remaining popular. Most idiots at school are like "hey'd -- you see the one where lisa gets beat up? that was funny!" and they regard old episodes as the crappy educational '50s films in health class. I liked "The Simpsons" when it was a parody of dysfunctional American family life, American life in general, and American entertainment -- not a parody of itself.

good question, no. when this was classic they were doing the non-tv style of the day. what they did was not done. Now its common to talk about gays, sex, and doing wrong so it would not be. Also a show on this long needs to change with the times and i think they have well so brava. We can not do classic like back then because classic redone is bad and the simpsons need to change with time, like it or not.

The Simpsons and Seinfeld were my two favorite shows in the history of
television. Fans of both lamented that the shows got "worse" over time. I
tend to disagree. As long as Seinfeld was about George being inadequate,
Jerry being superior to everyone else, Kramer being Kramer, and Elaine being
the token woman (not really, but just thought I'd throw that one in there)
the show was funny. When Jerry took over as main writer after Larry David
left, true, the show became much more out there, but I loved the show for
taking this leap of faith and followed blindly with it.
I'll admit it, I almost gave up on The Simpsons a couple of years ago.
I just wasn't feeling the show anymore. It was tough to get excited about
it every week, like I used to be. But, I still watched it every week, and
if it was disappointing, I knew that I had *TEN* more episodes to watch
during the week which I knew that I would like at least 8 of them. It paid
off, because I think the show was very strong this last season. I lauged my
ass off at most of the shows. As long as the show revolves around the crazy
life of these characters (The Simpsons and the usual gang of idiots), there
will be dry spells, but I will follow along with most anything they can come
up with.Shawn
