Not even a rerun. Oscars are on ABC so no one wants to compete with it.
Fox is airing Independence Day--You know, just in case you didn't see it in the theaters, or the first time it was on TV, or didn't rent it......

Tonight Sucks
Independence Day was orginally scheduled in September on the Friday or Saturday after the 11th, but they postponed it. So I guess they decided oscar weekend was as good as any to show it. Not that it should ever be shown anywhere at any time on any channel mind you.

I don't see why. It's an ultra-patriotic movie in which, despite skyscrapers being blown up and such, America triumphs.

Which is why it's perfectly appropriate to show it now. I'm not one of those who was ever hyper-sensitive about this kind of stuff...but surely anyone with half a brain can understand why the network decided that people might not feel like seeing the whitehouse and other landmarks being blown up (even by aliens) just four or five days after having seen it for real.

The only part I think is a little problematic is the scene where people are fleeing in the streets. I could see that affecting some people.

With Will Smith up for an academy award for "Ali", it is appropriate. As for the Simpsons spin on this movie, Bill Pullman is in the movie, and Homer makes a good Bill Pullman joke in the crayon in the brain episode.
"Independence Day" only fails in that it does such a poor job of copying so many cliches from so many other movies. Doing this properly is something they could have learned if only they had watched more episoes of "The Simpsons" before they wrote the script for the movie!

They preempted the show for The Phantom Menace a few months ago too. Fox has a bad habit of preempting The Simpsons for shitty movies that I could barely sit through once.
