The Simpsons go to a World's Fair, one that's actually open, and visit an exhibit that has a time machine. Wham. They land in the future of Futurama, and interact with them.

Or does the Futurama gang do the same, and end up back in time?

I can't remember who visited who, The Flinstones or The Jetsons, or maybe both.

Since virtually everything on The Flinstones was topical, obviously the fair in question is the 1964 New York World's Fair, which coincidentally had a "Futurama" exhibit.

No, I saw it in '64. For reference, there's a National Geographic article from the period that deals with the Fair, and it shows a scene.

Yes, there was a "Futurama" exhibit at the '39 Fair, and I gather it was more significant than the later one. But it was the later one I saw.
