(The other nominees were the Futurama episode "Jurassic Bark" and episodes of As Told By Ginger (Nickelodeon), Kim Possible (Disney), and SpongeBob SquarePants (Nickelodeon).) Under a new rule allowing only "14 producers, three writers, and four directors" to actually get Emmys, the following people credited on the show who would have won Emmys in past years did not get one for this episode: Brian Kelley, Co-Executive Producer J. Stewart Burns, Co-Executive Producer Michael Price, Co-Executive Producer George Meyer, Producer Ron Hauge, Producer Tom Gammill, Producer Max Pross, Producer Mike Scully, Producer David Mirkin, Producer Mike Reiss, Producer Marc Wilmore, Producer Richard Raynis, "Produced By" Bonita Pietila, , "Produced By" Denise Sirkot, "Produced By" Richard Sakai, "Produced By" John Hyde, Animation Producer In the Music and Lyrics (i.e. Original Song) category, "Everybody Hates Ned Flanders" lost out to "Aren't They All Our Children?" from ABC's "The Concert for World Children's Day". (The other nominees were from "It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie" and two from Nickelodeon's "The Fairly Oddparents" Valentine's Day episode.)
A heavily edited version of the ceremony (squeezing three hours of show plus commercials into two hours) will be on E! on Friday night at 5:00 PM. The current cast of "MadTV" are hosting the awards. Note that because of additional categories (for example, Stunt Direction) added this year, the Academy decided to move 15 of the "individual achievement" awards to a pre-ceremony. Yes, there are now awards that are not good enough for the Creative Arts Emmys. (Actually, the awards to be given on the "pre-show" rotate each year. (This reminds me of a SNL sketch where they had "highlights of the Scientific and Technical Awards", which itself had "highlights of the Awards for Extras".)
Ever notice that "creative arts" categories seem to count in nominations ("Six Feet Under got 16 nominations - see how good it is?"), but when it comes to awards, only the "main" ones seem to count ("The West Wing won for Drama Series and three acting awards! Okay, Six Feet Under won six Emmys overall, but five were in the 'who cares' categories...")
