One possible theory: After surviving the bout with the cobras in "Eight Misbehavin'", Homer realizes that cobras in showbiz are guaranteed audience getters, so he decides to learn how to play the banjo with the cobra. His nightmares involving cobras is a combination of both the cobra attacks from BABF03 and his misfortunes with the banjo sessions.
