When they first came out several years ago, everyone thought they were a Pearl Jam clone..........Scott either had a voice transplant, or realized that he better stop imitating Eddy Vedder. Now they're a good band.

For those of you old enough to remember, STP used to be an oil additive that you put in your crankcase with your motor oil. It was always advertised on TV by Andy Granatelli. "STP is the racer's edge". Now it is the name of some dumb-ass band that I never heard of. Because they haven't made a guest appearance on The Simpsons yet.

I remember that STP. In fact, they still sell it. I remember going to the full-serve gas station and getting STP stickers to put on my bike as a lad.
People just abbreviate the name "Stone Temple Pilots" to "STP". Not sure if they're named after the oil additive in some way. BTW--STP does make an appearance on the Simpsons... BABF10... the chameleon blends into the label of an STP bottle, before a snake eats it.

I love the first four songs, but after that the new one gets pretty dull in my opinion, with only one or two good songs over the rest of the CD. My favorite STP is #4.

I just like STP best when they're rocking out. I was never that into their slower singles, so I was sorry to see them take that direction on the new album-- especially after the first four songs are killer. Still, when STP is good, they really rock, so I'll probably continue to buy anything they release.
