The Simpsons have already been in a movie

What's this about them making the first simpson movie? They have already been at the movies. Sure it was some years back...and short...but doesn't that count? I believe it was the first time the simpsons were seen but I could easily be wrong. It was one where they go to a counselor to figure out what is wrong with their family. Bart eats all the candy and when the doctor tells him to put it back he spits it back into the bowl. Anyways, they end up deciding that their family isn't that bad after all. It was HILARIOUS. Can anybody tell me more about that shortie? Thanks

That's one of the original shorts from "The Tracey Ullman Show". Snpp.com should have more about the history of all that, but in brief there were 48 shorts in total, and they were used as "bumpers" (short segments airing before and after commercial breaks) in the show. They also were occasionally used as shorts before movies at the time, which is why you recall seeing that short in one. Fox eventually decided to take a chance at a series and the rest is history. Regarding that short, it was the 47th one I think, and was titled "Family Therapy". Again, go to snpp.com for more info. The Simpsons did appear in theaters one other time as well. I forget which episode it was now, but one of them had them at the movie theatre, and the "THX" thing comes on. Its so loud that people's heads fly back and teeth literally shatter, but when its done Grandpa still yells "turn it up!". The guys at THX apparently thought it was funny, and got permission to actually use it as a THX opening for a while.

I think there was a clip from "Deep Space Homer (1F13)" shown in "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion," too. It was probably not coincidental that David Mirkin was the lead writer for the "Simpsons" episode, and the director for the movie.
