First of all, I am not sure if you all experienced the same problem although I am not sure why you wouldnt. I sat down ready to watch some jaw-breaking action last sunday. 7:00 football was supposed to end, but it decided to run for an hour and 15 minutes past its original end. I am not a football fan. Why does FOX allow the NFL to broadcast into currently airing shows!!!!!!!!!!! -Ben
Why FOX's Priorities SUCK!
You're joking, right?
I too, was annoyed, and I AM a football fan, but I don't pretend to not see the obvious reasons why that happened.
This has been going on ever since Fox started airing NFL games. There would be nothing wrong with it, except:
1. They always schedule the game about 1 hour shorter than it runs _every_ single week. 2. The game consistently preempts one of Fox's best shows. I honestly feel that Futurama consistently equals or exceeds the Simpsons these days, and I think its Emmy nominations would back that up. To be honest, I don't even know if the season premiere ever ran, all I managed to see was a little bit of the Christmas special, and that completely by accident. 3. They do this year after year.

Right, that is my main problem there. They've been doing this for quite a few years now. It doesn't take a genius to see that they consistently run over. Why not keep with the NFL until 7:30 or even 8:00 and start their Sunday lineup then? I mean, that IS still primetime...
That gives them plenty of time to let their no-talent dopes yap about the games that day and FOX won't have a mass of regularly pissed off viewers who tune in to see the 7:00pm show only to see the last 5 minutes of some meaningless Carolina v Jacksonville game.
Yeah, but look at it from Fox's point of view. Our only recourse as viewers who can't see the show is to _not_ watch the show when it is on. They probably sit around and giggle about that one over many a 3-martooni lunch.

I know you're upset, Lisa, but just for a damn minute, try to look at this from a product-positioning standpoint!
Dr Music P.S. Parking was ample.
=v= And indeed, that Christmas special was supposed to air
*last* year. There have been two new shows this year,
"Roswell That Ends Well" (a most excellent series premiere)
and "Anthology of Interest II" (which many people only saw
in progress, due to football). They bumped another new
episode for _The_Chamber_. .--.

|\/\/\/| __/____| \Absolutely the worst thing about last Sunday's broadcast was when fox proudly put out a press release (this was on entertainment tonight on monday as well) that the 8:00pm post game coverage of the playoff game was the "highest ratings in weeks" WELL DUHH!!!! We had all tuned in to watch the Simpsons. Football ratings suck compared to fox's usual sunday night line-up (weak rating for x-files this year included), but Football knocks the sunday night comedies around because of the bigger bucks they get for advertising. Worst of all, I run a comic book shop, (I AM the comic book guy!) and I have spent the last 48 hours straight making copies of simpsons and x-files for fans who foolishly set their vcr's to record at the normal times. By the way, for those on the east coast, this weeks futurama re-run was the great episode where Frye gets worms from the sandwich he ate!

FWIW, the first-round playoff games (ie. wild-card games) got average ratings around 15, and the two games last week both got in the 23-25 range. I think that's rather higher than *any* prime time show gets these days. (NB: I don't have the ratings for the divisional games offhand)
Now, the ratings for regular season football games may be lower nationally (although not in certain markets like, say, all of Wisconsin), but IIRC Fox has been quite deliberate in not having a show at 7pm ET when they have a double header.
=v= Did you ever say, "Oh, if only *real* chicks went down as easily as these do?"

|\/\/\/| / / / /Oh man, that is exactly how dopey those guys are. IIRC, one of them once, on a live show, made a very similar comment.
Somthing to the effect of, "you're not going to win many games if you can't outscore your opponent". And that was no comic either...

As a jock, it's my job to give nerds a hard time...
The "Heidi Bowl" would be a perfectly good reason to keep showing a game while it's going, but the point that's trying to be made here is that the game had been over for close to (maybe over, I don't remember) 30 minutes prior to when The Simpsons aired. Fox had plenty of time to wrap up its post-game show and give the public what they tuned in to see... Bart by the barrelful!

What I don't understand is that the game was over before 8:00. They just kept on with their "post-game commentaries"
I always thought they did that post game stuff to roundout the program to the next hour.
The game was over before 8:00 damn it!!!
Jason
Yeah, but the advertisers pay a lot more for commercials that run during NFL broadcasts. If FOX runs an extra half hour, they can squeeze in at least three more commercial breaks with at least three commercials per break. That's a lot more $ than they would make if they just aired the Simpsons at 8:00.
I hate it too, but I do understand why it happens.

Will anyone ever stop complaining and actually do something about it? I have a mental equation in my head that roughly goes: 5 years + TiVo + HDTV + Broadband Internet broadcasts + GracieFilms.com + Simpsons subscription = FUCK FOX
Then FOX can change to an all-sports channel so quickly no one will care.
