Bauhaus, appart from being a pioneering goth band, was an architectural style which was developed after WWI by Walter Gropius. It is known for a relivily bland and unartistic style. Basically they removed adornment from architecture. So that bland skyscraper in your city, is probably derived from Bauhaus.

I was curious about this as well. I vaguely remembered it from an art class I took in high school. Have a look at this link, it explains a bit.
