Worst Epidsode Ever

Hey All

I'm new to this newsgroup, and have added my comments in here and there about our latest episode. But I just wanted to make my own comments on it. First of all I'm a Canadian (surprise eh?) :) so yes I was offended by the little amount of time and effort they put into portraying Toronto, one of the most beautiful cities in Canada, but aside from that I have been a Simpsons fan almost from the start, and all my life as far back as I can remember. This episode, aside from being terrible towards Canadians was just poorly done, it was like it was hacked together in the last ten minutes before it had to be done. Some of the jokes were just terrible, and most of the time through the episode i was just sitting there going "ummmmm OK" The only good crack in the entire episode was the one about American currency, did someone who actually had experience in Canada walk by the writers office and throw that one in? But anyways I'm not going to apologize for the Canadians complaining about this, but I know you Americans think we are just being a bunch of whiners about this episode and YES a lot of it is our fault for putting so much hype into it, but give us a break there are A LOT of canadian fans of the simpsons so we were hoping to be thrown a bone on this one, and quite obviously we didn't get it.

Well, you're original, most of them say Worst Episode ever, Epidsode is different, to say the least.

Damning with faint praise, aren't we?

I mean how many "cities" are there in Canada that it should be so tough to qualify for a "one of the best" rating?

Get an education dude. You put down a country while knowing nothing about it. Typical.

Here's a link for your tiny brain to look over: http://www.canadainfolink.ca/cities.htm

Oh and the population is in thousands, meaning you have to add 3 zeros to the end. So Toronto is 4 million not 4 thousand.

Dave Paisley wrote in message news:...

Dave PaisleyBlader

I lived in Canada for 4 years and currently reside within a couple of hours drive of the border.

It's a nice place, but it doesn't have a lot of "cities". Some people might think that's a good thing, so get off your high horse.

(Oh, but it's harder to tell at the bottom of the list. There might only be 131 people in Thunder Bay?)

So there are all of 26 "cities" in Canada according to the website. And let's face it, anything with a population less than say, 250,000 is hard to call a city by most countries standards. So that drops off the bottom nine, headed by Saskatoon, leaving 17.

And of those 17, there are places like Windsor, Oshawa and Victoria. And while the latter is a nice enough place, it's hardly a typical bustling city.

So for Toronto to qualify as "one of the best" cities in Canada is hardly, as I noted, much of a feat.

And if anything, it's the most bland, but not without redeeming qualities.

Having lived in two of those bottom 9 you dropped off the list, I would argue that a city cannot merely be defined by population alone. If you had ever seen a city like Saskatoon or Regina, or Fredericton, or Thunder Bay, you would find it difficult to label it merely a "town" just because there are fewer than a quarter of a million people... they have self-contained downtowns with high-rise apartments and offices, performing arts such as symphonies and theater companies, professional sports, etc.

Sorry Bout the spelling it was early in the morning.....but the thing about it is....Americans are not that cut up in the show. It's always ( like anything else that americans make ie movies, songs) about how amazing the States are and how great they are, and blah blah blah. As for how many cities are in Canada, i'm sorry we didn't split our country six ways from sunday. But we still do have a lot of cities. All I'm saying is if your going to protray us protray us more correctly than they did. I'm mean honestly I have been going to the CN Tower all my life (that's 22 years if anyone is interested) and I have NEVER seen a mountie in there in full dress uniform.

Well, it's funny to non-canadians, who most likely associate mounties, hockey, freezing natives and "eh" with Canada. I don't expect it to be realistic, because where would the humor be in that? Stereotypes, that's what they were, and they were funny, just like in NYC. Not eveyone in NYC are thiefs, pimps, and garbage dumpers, but its damn funny. Funny!

Chief Wiggum is a cop and American, but that's obviously not a shot at American cops.

C. Montgomery Burns is a rich snob and American, but that's obviously not a shot at rich Americans.

Moe rigs together five guns with duct tape and fishing wire and gets applause for shooting someone in the spine, but that's not a shot at the American group called the NRA.

The Republicans get together and decide to ruin the environment, but that's not a shot against American Republicans.

Hey....... Dudes........ Get real! Cassidy is right -- Your portrayal of Toronto was pretty poor. I mean -- most Canadian Simpson fans have probably waited, like, forever to see an episode that they can relate too. And when it finially comes....... IT SUCKS. I'm an English Simpson fan, and have noticed many British references eg. Ringo Starr, The Spinal tap world tour in London, Krusty Goes to Wimbledon; meets the queen, Zombie Shakespear, "THE BIG BOOK OF BRITISH SMILES", the beatles, Krusty's holding company on The Cayman Islands, the ripper, Elton John, Hugh Parkfield...... ECT.

I agree with the fact, that in some ways, these are amusing, but...... They depict England, France, Germany, Austrailia and now Canada, in mocking ways -- like a "joke". Get real Americans...... it may be just an insignificant gag to yourselfs, but to us, it's our pride. We are not just a bunch of stuck-up snobs, and cockney loosers, with bad teeth, you know.

Right, the Simpsons NEVER make fun of America <<sarcasm detector explodes, taking out four city blocks (that would be 8.8 British city blocks, right?)>>

Let's try this again, it's an AMERICAN series, depends on AMERICAN ad revenues. BBC and whoever could drop the Simpsons and it would go on, but if its ratings drop in the US and FOX cancels it, the show is over. Get it? It's Canada's own fault that they pumped so much into this episode. The show makes way more fun of Americans than they do any other country. when have they ever ripped the beatles? never. Parodied, but never made fun of them. Elton John isn't a British rock star, he's just a rock star to Americans. It wasn't a British ref. Same with Shakespeare. was never a British ref. It's a ref to Shakespeare, nothing more. Same with Ringo. And, this might surprise you, but Spinal Tap was a bunch of American actors! Oh, you forgot the British waitress, "Freshen your drink, governor?".

Stuck up snobs - let's see, Kent Brockman, CMB, CBG, just about every star to appear on the show. Cockney losers - they may not be cockney, but there are plenty of American losers on the show. Bad teeth - every damn character has an overbite! How's that for bad teeth?

Okay, I guess Canada did Make a big deal out of *virtually* nothing. I've heard the BBC have invested in episodes up to Season 13, but do not intend to buy any futher ones, due to high over-seas trade transaction prices. This therefore means -- We will have to contend with those stupid reapeats, once again! :-( As for FOX...... Man..... I can't believe they cancelled Futurama, and Family Guy! That Sucks.... And who's to say, the Simpsons aren't next on their hitlist? I Recall practically choking upon my Korn FlakesT and contemplating over and over "Once again FOX has cancelled yet another quality show! They can't do that -- it's a crime against nature!!" FuriousXGeorgeChemboy

I agree.

Something people seem to always fail to understand about The Simpsons is that the show bashes EVERYONE and EVERYTHING.

Thats one of the things that makes the show funny.

Are they supposed to just change that formula because they happen to be setting a small part of one episode in America Junior?

Furious George aka Queso

my sentimonies exactly. no one, and i mean no one, is exempt from the simpsons furious satire and sarcasm. even the simpsons themselves, the cartoon, the writers, the producers, MG himself ("get the hell out of my office"). if anything, the simpsons pokes fun at america the Most. without a doubt.

That's the thing though, and that's what I mean about american's........that's supposed to be the "typical american family" well there are typical families like that all over the world and problems like that exist many places on the planet. I mean honestly everything that comes up in the states in instantly an American Problem! like the world trade center....I had people come up to me or send me messages saying that I had no write to talk about it. First of all, don't let a few jerks tell you what you can and can't talk about. The attacks, though all on Key targets on American soil, affected everyone and everyone has a right to discuss it.

However, while I don't think there's a question that there are other countries out there, the attacks on the WTC, the Pentagon and the crash in Penn was intended to be entirely about America. They didn't attack the British Parliment, they didn't attack the Eiffel Tower. They didn't attack the Molsen Centre.

bin Laden wants ALL Americans out of Saudi Arabia and other Mid-East countries. His demands have nothing to do with Canada; nothing to do with Australia; nothing to do with France; nothing to do with Mexico or any other country, for that matter.

Don't blame Americans for taking those attacks personally. If you want someone to blame for making this entirely about America, blame bin Laden.
