4F22 City of New York vs. Homer Simpson Question

Does anyone else think that Matt Groening will delete all references to the World Trade Center in this episode and move Homer's car to someone else in New York City such as on Broadway or Fifth Avenue or even possibly in Central Park?

I know that when it comes to tragedy Matt Groening is very sensitive to this and as I remeber he even edited one scene in one of the 1st season episode of Futurama where any reference to John F.Kennedy Jr. was removed after he, his wife and sister-in-law were killed in a plane accident in New England.

Personally, Even though I like this episode very much I think it will be very hard for many people including myself to watch this episode without tearing up because I grew up with the World Trade Center practically in my back yard, It's always been there and I've been on the top of Tower 1 many many times and I don't know if I can bear to be without it.

Someone else touched on this - it sure would be silly to do so...while we're at it, let's remove every reference to it everywhere! TV stations may feel less willing to air it as much in syndication but that's probably about it. By the way, Matt Groening is a very important part of the Simpsons (besides being its creator) but it's not like he does EVERYTHING (that would be plain nutty)...if anyone removes it, it won't be MG sitting at a desk doing it just by himself.

Good point. And speaking of JFK jr, Seinfeld kept airing the episode of Elaine (sp) being all hot for JFK jr after he died. I mean you look at it a little differently at first, but it is part of American TV culture and you just don't wipe these things off the map.

But since so much of the episode takes place in the WTC plaza, it would be impossible to edit that out. And the events certainly change the episode. It's not "Look at Homer trying to pee!" It's "Those are the buildings that got blown up." A lot of comedy material about JFK, including a record and a MAD satire, was never seen again after his assassination.

But the person's name that they put in in his place ALSO died, so they changed it back. Maybe they'll learn their lesson not to change art to silly social norms.

Agreed.

It's not like the Simpson's predicted Homer would destroy the WTC, for example. And as far as I know, no one died in that episode. They were just mostly annoyed.

Don't get me wrong, the incident in New York City was a terrible thing, but I fail to see the good behind public censorship of anything that contains references to the World Trade Centers. Things like not showing episode 4F22 for a while are understandable, but I think a lot of people are going too far. For instance, Red Alert 2 was pulled off the shelves in Wal Mart and Kmart because the opening movie showed New York City being bombed. Seeing the towers actually falling down is worse, I think, and not a day goes by where you don't see that on the news. The cover didn't show that scene either, and I doubt that the discomfort that one or two people might feel after buying the game and then seeing the opening movie warrants pulling the game off the shelves. I mean, these people are buying the game and if they don't get it at wal mart they'll just go somewhere else anyway. I guess the question to ask is "does any good come out of it?" but sadly, for most of these things the answer is "no". If you want to help then by all mean do so but please put your efforts toward something constructive.
