My oldest daughter will enter 12th grade this fall. She has been attending an excellent after-school program at our church for several years. The problem is, they are only licensed to take children through age 18. In a few short years (you KNOW how quickly they fly) she'll be too old for daycare and be coming home to an empty house.
Frankly, I am not comfortable with this: I trust Melissa, she's a real good kid. I suspect that the worst thing she'd ever do while home alone is over-eat and forget to do her homework. I am worried about safety: How safe is it to let a small pretty blond 18 year old girl come home to an empty house every day? Granted my husband gets home every day at 4:00, but I worry about some psycho figuring out she's alone and breaking into our house and waiting for her some day..
I have thought about hiring someone to be home in those afternoon hours to ensure her safety: Either an older person looking for some extra income or a mature college student in the same predicament.
