Mike Scully vs. Al Jean

Does anyone think the show might actually improve if Mike Scully returned as executive producer? Granted, some of the shows created during seasons 9-12 were terrible, but Al Jean doesn't seem to be improving matters much. Actually, I think I enjoy the show even less now. The episodes produced during the Scully years weren't exactly intellectual or creative achievements, but at least they were funny, which is more than I can say about the majority of the recent episodes. This is merely one jackass's opinion, and I'm still sticking by the show... as hard as I find it to do sometimes.

I have to agree. While the Jean era episodes generally have better stories and are more realistic and down-to-earth, a lot of them just aren't very funny. There are plenty of ATTEMPTS to be funny, but too many of them induce groans rather than chuckles. Last week's My Mother The Carjacker is a perfect example of that. Overall, Al Jean has managed to make the show has rise from the all-time low it reached in seasons 11-12, but not by much.

I really think that no matter who they get to run the show, it will never be as good as it once was. Let's face it, the show has been on way too long. They've run out of ideas, and the show is no longer edgy in today's TV climate. Shows like South Park and Family Guy have made The Simpsons look tame by comparison, forcing the writers to try and catch up with them, for better or worse.
