The Simpsons has got to be the most entertaining show to watch with closed captioning turned on your TV! They don't miss a thing with the dialogue, sound effects and music. However, I have caught a few instances where the CC has different dialogue than what is heard. Example: In the "Party Posse" episode, when the VJ chick says that bit about "...Brought to you by Stridex... Medicated!" the caption reads something like "That was a back to back video block with Eminem on top of Cake... Yummers!" And on close inspection, her lip synch matches the CC text. I can only assume this was the first draft script before the final editing. Some dialogue and things are eventually changed by the time the show goes to air. The closed-captioning is done before post-production.

Glad to see that someone else noticed this. I have seen it happen 3 or 4 times on the Simpsons and twice on Futurama and have wondered what the deal is.
Here is an example of one (unfortunately I don't remember the episode or the name Homer uses I *think* it was Wolfcastle)
Homer picks up the phone and says "Get me Rainier Wolfcastle."
Audio - Lisa: "Dad, I'm on the phone." CC - Operator: "First pay your phone bill."
Personally I like the CC joke better.

At the conclusion of the "Laddie" episode, the police discover some "medical" marijuana in a man's house. You see an exterior shot of the house as reggae music starts playing (Bob Marley's "Jammin'"), and more police arrive at the house...I think Eddie is carrying a sixpack, and Lou brings a date. You hear Wiggum telling Lou to shut up, because he "loves this song." Around this point the following line appeared in the closed captions but was not spoken:
"Hey, hey, Lou -- don't bogart that, uh, medicine."
As I recall this was excised from the episode when it was re-run.

This Happens all the time as early as Season 7. Ex: In "King Sized Homer" as Homer discovers he can type "Y" instead of "YES".
Audio: Well, give me a "Y". CC: Well, give me a word.
I also noticed it gets worse and worse each season. As far as I know, I think "Trilogy of Error" seems to have the most mistakes.
Well, "The Parent Rap" also has a large amount of alternate dialogue. And, actually, if you like back in Season 1 (In syndication), there are a large amount of what might be actual captioning errors. For instance, in "The Tell-Tale Head" every time Marge refers to the Sunday School, captioning replaces that with "Church". I think there were also some instances of the Kwik-E-Mart being called the "Quick-E-Mart", or something similar. ------------------------------------- This may or may not be a signature.
Found 2 more in the episode where Bart has a play date with Ralph.
When the SImpsons arrive at the Knowledgeum, Bart walks off saying "I'm going to go toss the virtual salad." But the CC reads "I'm going to crawl inside the visible Frenchman!" I can see why they changed THAT one!
And when Bart is reading Homer's police file in Wiggum's closet, the audio is: "Wow! Dad's been in jail 6 times! Aw... Mom's only been twice." But the CC reads, "Aw... and he killed that swan at the zoo."

That's human error, plain and simple. The closed-captioner misheard "Y" as "word." Errors like this are few and far between, but they do occur. The closed-captioning is only as good as the closed-captioner, as I say.
