Really? I had Q-link for my C64 back in the late 1980's. Never worked right and when it did it was lame. I never knew they became AOL, but the continued woeful service is a fine example of corporate continuity.
Forgive my ignorance, but how did one access the "internet" back in the old days before all these ISP's showed up?

This was before it was on computers. Everyday, when you would check your mail, you would also check your internet, which was a collection of printed papers that a person not unlike the postman would deliver to you. They were delivered onto a log (piece of wood) that was kept infront of your house / apartment / cave / place of residence. This was "logging on to the internet" since your internet was placed on a log. Then, when you where done, you would remove the log, and all the papers would fly into the breeze, never to be seen again. This was called "logging off." Using newsgroups was very complicated and required ten stout men, each with a mule, an ax and a pale of water. Clearly, this is too complex to explain here. -Aaron TheYAM.net
