The disclaimer on the marquee at the entrance to the Bi-Monthly Sci-Fi convention is true. Some conventions will promote their convention by showing pictures of cosplayers (aka people who dress up in costume) that attended the convention in previous years. Usually, these pictures will appear on the convention's web site, although some conventions may also use pictures in either advertising or in the convention guide. Also, some conventions (and a few messages on a convention's bulletin board page) may point people to sites with cosplay photos taken by a third party group (be it major cosplay photo sites or a regular Joe that attended the convention).
