So Buzz Aldrin was a real astronaut who really went to the moon, right? Didn't he go in that rocket ship built by Apollo Creed? And didn't Lance Armstrong go with them?

Close. You must be too young to remember the sixties!! Yes, Buzz Aldrin really did go to the moon on the first manned moon landing. He flew in a Saturn V rocket built by many manufacturers including Douglas Aircraft and Boeing. The program was called "Apollo" but the rockets were not built by a so-called "Apollo" company. NEIL Armstrong flew with him, as well as Michael Collins. (Collins did not land on the moon)

Tomorrow, it will be 35 years since Apollo 11 launched. And then on Tuesday, it's 35 years since a manned spacecraft first landed on the moon.

How many who had tv sets did not stay up or get up to watch Neil Armstrong step on the moon for the first time?

Thirty five years can be a long time ago, unless you've lived through it.

It was a joke. Filled with OFF references, too. I was born in 1956. I saw the Moon landing on TV. And I was NOT sitting on a bean bag listening to "Yummy yummy yummy I've got love in my tummy", like someone else was. You know who I'm talking about.

Who HAD TV sets? Whoa! It wasn't Mayberry or Hooterville. HOOTERVILLE? Now there's a 60s reference that nobody can refer to anymore!

I did see the landing on TV, and most people did have TV sets. Black and white. "Remote control" was when you got your younger brother to change the channel for you. Not those old stone things with the rhino tusk for an antenna like they had on the Flintstones, but pretty close.

I am going to my 30th High School reunion in two weeks. I wonder if Principal Dondalinger will be there. I wonder if anyone will have the nerve to wear a plunger on their heads? "Dave's not here, man!"

And Neil Armstrong appeared in the "BIMONSCIFICON Mayored to the Mob" episode! "This man actually walked on the Moon!"

The French made a documentary a year or so ago called 'Dark Side of the Moon' (see http://www.cbc.ca/passionateeyesunday/darksideofthemoon/about.html ) which made a very plausible link between the moon landings and Stanley Kubrik's film making exploits. It all sounds very believable, until you realise at the end that the whole thing is a spoof (broadcast on April 1st in Australia!)

Wasn't there a short-lived t.v. series in the '80s about a father and son team who build their own rocket to space? Mighta had Andy Griffith in it, I'm not sure. Dim memories, maybe it was just some dream I had years ago.

I'm having similar dreams, but I can't salvage and definitive memories. Andy Griffith and his family salvaged various parts to build a spaceship to go to the moon so they could salvage parts from the Apollo missions. I sitll can't salvage the name of the TV show. I think it was called something like "The act of saving imperiled property from loss."
