What's everyone's opinion on that one?
I think the writers should make the characters play the Simpsons characters: the characters that we've seen on the show for years.
With shows with Bart as "Tom Sawyer" and Lisa as "Connie Appleseed", it's just too weird.
I don't like it.

I think it's fun when they branch off into something different now and then. They play "themselves" most of the time, and even when they play someone like Connie Appleseed or Homer Bufflekill, it's still basically the Simpsons characters with other names, but it gives the chance for them to be in different settings and situations.
