Hey all,

It's been forever and a day since I've posted here, but I was wondering
if any of you could think of good Simpsons quotes that had to do with football.
The one I've been using (Homer the Heretic: Whoa Doctor...) is getting old and
I can't think of another..."Little help? I said 'little help!' Throw me the
ball, Poindexter!'"
Till Then=)
Jeff Warden "If I wanted smoke blown up my ass, I'd be at home with a pack
of cigarettes, and a short length of hose." --The Simpsons

"Wow. Now I have four children. You will be called... 'Stitchface.'"

My supply of homespun sayings is lower than a doodlebug in Aunt Tilly's root cellar.

Oh, jumpin' crawdaddies!

Homer: "OH, The Denver Broncos!!!" Marge: "Homer, I think owning the Denver Broncos is a good thing." Homer: "You just don't understand football Marge."

And when Springfield had a football team: Homer: "Flanders, Flanders, Flanders. Hey Flanders, your the worst coach this team has ever had!" Lisa, (I think): "Dad, he's the only coach this team has ever had."

Or Australian football? Canadian? Rugby (and which kind)? "Football" means a lot of things all over the world.

means

That's the name of the sport--rugby football. As opposed to association football, which Americans call soccer.

What, you want names? Sheesh.

OK, a guy called Malcolm I met in a pub in Campbeltown. He averred that stupid Americans (like myself, presumably) didn't even know the difference between association and rugby football.

difference

No, Malcolm was Scottish. Campbeltown is a fairly well-known town in Scotland.

means

PG Wodehouse ("called" rather than "calls", I suppose). He calls football (as in soccer, not US football) "association".

That's where I probably first heard the use, actually. I've got over 70 Wodehouse books, most of them read at least five times.

well, considering that it's an american show, which _once_ dealt with soccer, but mentions football quite often and doesn't need to specify "american", i think the post was pretty clear...

as for the question about football quotes, i'd look in "lisa the greek"

Homer: Who do you like in the afternoon games?
Lisa: Well, I like the 49ers because they're pure of heart,
Seattle because they've got something to prove,
and the Raiders because they always cheat.
          [later]
Brent: And on an extreeeeeemely suspicious play, the Raiders win!

True; but soccer is mentioned in at least 3 episodes: Brother From Another Planet, The Cartridge Family and (maybe only briefly) Blame it on Lisa.

"These tickets are counterfeit." "Counterfeit?" "Yes. See, the barcode is missing, there's no such team as the Spungos, and they appear to printed on some sort of cracker." *starts eating one* "Hey, stop eating our tickets!!"

I would just like to say that college football diverts funds badly needed for education and the arts!
