So I'm thinking I saw the whole show last night, but tonite, someone asks me if it was interrupted for an announcement that it was raining outside. I didn't think it was, because Fox started their weather alerts during commercials, but that's when I realized I didn't see Homer get his prescription or see the flashback to his ganja days in hi-skool.
Fuck Fox. Oh, it's raining outside - I'm sure glad that I'm watching Fox, otherwise I might go out and get wet.
Fox sucks isn't really accurate in this situation (although possibly in general). Your local station sucks is more accurate. However it may just be reasonble to think that the fact that warning people that tornadoes might be coming through the area withing the next 30 minutes warranted you missing a minute or two of a TV show.
Just a follow up before this starts an argument. I wasn't happy about it either and I do realize that if the weather guy hadn't repeated everything he said three times that he probably could have finished the alert in time for the second act, but you also have to realize that there isn't much commercial time that they are allowed to interrupt (they did start the alert during the commercials) which means that if they have more than like a minutes worth of stuff to say they are inevitably going to interrupt a little bit of the next act.
yeah right give me a fucking break were watching tv hear. as homer tells bart when he says tv sucks -- I don't know what he says but it's like an old letterman gag. letterman had a bit way back about reruns and a kid says they suck and tv sucks and letterman says now jimmie I'm gonna pretend I didn't hear that. and very seriously explains how fabulous tv is and how he should never forsake the tv
me fail english that's unpossible " CAN YOU OPEN MY MILK MOMMY??? I'M NOT MOMMY I'M MISS HOOVER RALPH"
In the particular example I gave, you are correct.
How so. It's Sunday evening. I'm at home, watching my favorite show. It's raining outside - raining hard, in fact, and it has been most of the weekend. If you don't realize there's a storm outside and if you're too stupid to realize that you live in an area prone to flash flooding and tornadoes then you deserve to die - how else can we spare ourselves from the influx of Yanquis invading the Lone Star State?
But seriously, WTF do you expect anyone to do about it? Hide in the cellar? Sorry, we don't have cellars in Texxas. We don't have basements either - why the fuck would you want an underground room, anyway? If you're stupid enough to go outdoors in a storm, and you are stupid enough to think you don't run some sort of risk, then I'm sorry - may you earn a Darwin Award and spare the human race more of your idiocy.
I have yet to hear any rational explanation as to what I should do if there's a tornado warning for a county 75 miles away, much less any explanation of what I should do if it's in my own county. Someone suggested I take my mattress into the bathroom and try to cover myself while I sat in the bathtub, but I am not about to do that unless all the windows in my house suddenly break because the air pressure outside is so much less than the normal air pressure which resides in my house and if that happens, I'm probably going to be dead or blown to Oz anyway, so who the fuck cares?
Let whatever tornadoes develop level a few trailer parks - that's why we allow them in the first place. It's the modern day sacrifice to the Storm Gods, statistics will bear me out on this - the Storm Gods will spare home-dwellers and even apartment-dwellers if only they can take a little bit of trailer-trash with them, and Dawg knows we can do with less trailer-trash.
But my question remains - what the fuck does my local Fox affiliate expect me to do when they tell me it's raining outside? There's a fucking air-raid siren about 1000 feet from my house which is extremely audible even with the TV turned up loud to warn me that there's a tornado. If that ever goes off, I'll get worried - or just go out on the patio and be amazed, but Fox should piss off with their idiotic interruptions. Was the Emergency Broadcasting System activated? NO. The assholes at Fox are just being dickheads. (I like mixing metaphors). And everytime they do shit like this, I can guarantee you, during their "Viewers Response" segment, they will air several people who called to complain about this idiotic reaction, and then they will say how it is their duty and shit to warn people that it's raining outside (Why? so I don't get wet?). I still am not sure what the fuck I'm supposed to do if it rains outside while I'm inside trying to watch the Simpsons.
For a hurricane, I understand - you take precautions because you have at least 48 hours notice, but 48 hours notice doesn't mean you have to interrupt regularly scheduled programming, and they don't. If lightning strikes you, it's not gonna do any good to hear a warning about it as the bolt is ripping your cells apart.
Ok, yeah...you need to just get over it already. It's not like it's the first time a TV show has been interrupted for severe weather bulletins, and I'm sure it's not the last. Maybe you should consider moving out of a river basin that's in the middle of tornado country if you don't like hearing flood and tornado warnings on the news.
I believe we don't have basements in Texas because the soil is clay or something. Were you talking about the interruptions by Fox 4? ________________________________________________________________
If love of money is the root of all evil, why do churches want it so badly?
Actually, it's more that basements are just not needed in the south. The reason houses have basements is because the foundation has to be set below the frost line. Although the frost line is not actually more than 3 or 4 feet deep anywhere in the US, if you are going to have 3 feet of empty space below your house, it might as well be 7 or 8 feet so you can make use of it.
Basements can (and are) built in clay, although you tend to have more problems with water seepage and over time the walls tend to crack.
[email] (Sydney Assbasket ) spewed forth in news:[email] on 14 Apr 2002:
We have them here in Indiana because of tornados. and i believe Texas has more than us, so it would make sense for you to have them. We also use ours as a den because since it's below ground, it stays cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Therefore, our energy bills are lower. That's why we have basements
i don't know. i got the joke too and wasn't too scared by that. i mean, pee wee's big adventure! wasn't that tim burton's first hollywood film? it's classic! in a stupid pre-beetlejuice kind of way. also, remember large marge? i think it's probably just a coincidence that a simpsons ep is named that too (coming up next season i gather?). i wonder if they'll stick that line in - "just tell 'em large marge sent ya!"
I'm sure lots more people got that joke than will admit to it. It is a classic...everyone makes fun now, but Pee Wee Herman was very popular in his day. I used to watch Pee Wee's Playhouse every saturday.
