Forensics

Whoops, sorry. I forgot to ask this just now. What (in the US education system) are "Forensics"?

Thanks for the quick reply. Would this really be available for study in a US high school? I got the impression that the forensics Marge was talking about was something other than the crime scene investigation stuff.

Yes and no. With high school forensics there are speech events that are either for individuals (like Dramatic Interpretation [which I did in high school] or Prose), for pairs (Humorous Duo Interpretation and Dramatic Duo Intepretation) or for groups. There are other events that have to do with debating- either cross-examination debating, Lincoln-Douglas debating or Team debating.

In general, there's an organized debate about a topic that's known in advance so the teams can prepare for it. A coin flip determines whether your team is arguing the pro side or the con side of the issue. Whoever presents their argument best, with valid evidence and a reasonable rebutting or acknowledgment of the other team's points, "wins."
