"Eye on Springfield" is based on an actual TV magazine show here in Los Angeles back in the '80s called "Eye on L.A." The opening montage was very similar (shots of famous landmarks and lots of T&A). The host of the show (Paul Moyer) was also a TV news anchorman on the same channel. Incidentally, the likeness of Kent Brockman is based on the late Los Angeles TV news anchor Jerry Dunphy (white hair and all), who at the time worked on the same TV news team as Moyer.
