Okay, the Simpsons get hit by a train. Then Homer climbs out of the car as it's being pushed along, gets into the train and heads for the snack car. Someone says to bring back something. It's driving me nuts, trying to figure out if I just imagined this or what.
I know that they got hit by a train in the episode where they go to Spring Break but there the conductor just pries them off with a bar.

Yeah, it does happen in Kill The Alligator And Run - They get hit by the train, fall asleep, then wake up to find Homer returning from the snack bar. Following that the conductor pries them off with a bar.
Could be that the bit with Homer going to the snack bar were cut in syndication or something?

Somthing similar happens when he goes to India with Apu... they're making a pardoy of the Indian train system (System is over crowded, some passengers end up hanging off the outside)...
In "Kill the Alligator and Run" the Simpsons are hit by a train while fleeing from the sheriff. They ride in front of the train all night, and when the family wakes up in the morning, Homer is just returning from going to the club car for some snacks. At that point, the engineer pries their car off the train and it rolls to a stop. This is when they take jobs at a diner.
The confusion comes from the fact that a partion of this is cut from the syndicated airing.
