"Smart and smarter" my viewpoint on the episode

Hi:)

I think that "Smart and smarter was an overall good episode:) The one thing I question though is Lisa's smarts as I have throughout the run of the series. Some earlier episodes seem to indicate that she is only book smart and not a true prodigy.

In this one, Lisa's IQ is stated as 169, but if that is the case, why is she not in a gifted class at SES? With that IQ, Lisa can't feel challenged in a second grade class.

BTW, did anyone see the scene with Ned and his boys as Lisa leaves home?

No, they would probably send her to "The Enriched Learning Center for Gifted Children"... so soon we forget

Or, Springfield might not necessarily separate the advanced students. Until we finally had a program for gifted students, the gifted students were still with the rest of the students. As I recall, the teacher typically had assignments that everyone did, but taught reading (and a couple other subjects) with groups of different abilities.

Ned had premarital sex last season. That seems like more of a "breaking away from his faith" than not letting a swear word upset him.

Ned has to realize that other people swear. Even though Ned himself wouldn't swear, he couldn't let every single swear word in earshot upset him. If he did, he'd never get anything done living next to the Simpsons.

I asked that question cause when I saw that scene, my mind went back to an older episode in which Ned gets on to Homer about cussing in front of his boys.

This little bit with Roddy just seems so out of charecter for Ned. I wonder if the writers are trying to portray Ned as starting to think for himself now that Maude is supposedly dead?

Are the writers trying to make Ned grow a little emotionally maybe after his wife's death?

The writers are pointing out that Christians that attack others for "giving into behavior" (Red Hots) are lying hypocrites, IMHO.
