I notice that most of the threads seem to center on "favorite" or "funniest" quotes. My question is different: what Simpsonism do people find most useful in everyday life? IMHO, while such old time favorites as "Don't have a cow," "Eat my shorts," or the ever-popular "D'Oh!" have their place, the most useful Simpsonism I have found is
"Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter."
What do other people think (or use in everyday life)?
-"meh." when I don't have an oppinion on something. -"heh, heh mule." when I don't get a joke. -"there's your answer, fishbulb." when I answer someone's question. Sincerely, Little Girl
i use "thank you ____" (in a todd flanders voice (or was it rod?)) all the time. like "thank you door" whenever walking through automatic doors, but also a lot when i'm driving, and i'll get out of the car, lock the doors and say in a high-pitched voice "thank you car." i've gotten a lot of strange looks for that one, not seeing people who are near and hear me.
i use "I am holding still, i am squirming" a lot for some reason too. "Yeah, syrup is better than jelly" is my stock reply to stupid boring conversation-starting crap. "so, let's have a conversation" when i'm talking to someone and don't know what to say. "sounds interesting. sounds interesting." self-explanatory.
my brother uses "you're ... sellling what now?" all the time, esp when people are trying to tell him something important, like our folks. i think that's funny.
I'm personally a fan of "Wait, wait wait...back up a bit now. When are the pancakes coming in the mail?" when someone's trying to urgently tell me something in an urgent manner. "Where are your sticky buns" works well when you appear to have something urgent to tell someone else, although if they haven't seen that episode, it's guaranteed not to be funny.
here, "D'oh!" gets used at least once a day. "Sweet merciful crap!" gets trotted out occasionally. "Well, duh!" often escapes from my lips whenever I hear something stupid. I do parapharase Ralph sometimes when I meet someone with a real stupid attitude (particularly trolls) by saying "I bet you also believe your cat's breath smells like cat food"
Oh, and the use of "lousy". For example, once I heard that a notorious serial killer was trying for a retrial, I responded with "yes, I guess he's within his rights to do that. Lousy due process!"
When I am having sex with my various beautiful long necked supermodel girlfriends, they always say what Lenny said when the quarter was stuck in his forehead:
I also use the 'fishbulb' quote from time to time, as well as 'meh' (what Simpsons fan *doesn't* use that one?) The followup "I said, meh." is also useful.
The ones my brother and I use the most: "Out of my way, jerkass!" (great for many situations) "Oh dear God no ... this ... this can't be happening!" "Can I have xxx? <No> Can ... Lenny have it?" "Oh ... GOD!!" (when Homer hits Grimes' car - the correct emphasis is important in using this one) "<person's name>, I'm not going to lie to you." "Smashy, smashy!" (used *a lot* by me) "I don't approve of *that*." (followup line to the previous one in the episode, but very useful by itself) "You're a stupidhead." (not used frequently, but with the Homeric delivery it's usually quite funny) "Sweet merciful crap!"
I could write these all day, but I guess the gist of it is - Simpsons quotes are quite memorable and pervasive among the shows fans. (And in cases like "D'oh!" even among non-fans.)
I've transmuted this one into "Stalky stalky," most often used when I am trying to track down people at work by stalking their calendars.
Other faves, of which several have already been mentioned, but I still get a lot of mileage out of 'em:
"You shot who in the what now?" "Meh." "Awwwwww, crap!" (definitely requires Homer inflection) "In theory, communism works." "You should have taken an existing product and put a clock in it or something." (sometimes said to designers at work) "Stupid poetic justice!" "It's a pornography store. I was buying pornography." "Come along, Bort!" (I say this one incessantly to the boyfriend when we are out shopping or some such.) "So, you admit you grabbed her can."
when discussing some unfortunate event that's happened to someone else: (you need to laugh hard so that someone admonishes you) "it's funny because it's true"
=v= You know, I almost put that as #5 on the list, but I don't use it nearly as frequently as the above. Also, "D'oh!" is #1 with a bullet, I use it like a million times a day.
=v= I guess I make lots of miztakez. .-. .-.

Along similar lines, when I'm with a group of friends and one of them says something stupid one of us will invariably say "I heard it too, here's some music"
This just reminded me of something re: "Let's roll" (which I say all the time):
A couple months ago, the 9/11 widow whose husband tried to storm the cockpit of one of the planes after it was hijacked (declaring, "OK, let's roll,") was going to trademark the phrase to put on T-shirts, etc.
When I tried to tell people they said this on the Simpsons all the time, they argued that the guy was a Christian and wouldn't have got the phrase from the Simpsons.
=v= I support this if she goes on to sue General Motors for "Keep America Rolling." (Bizarre bit o' reality: in the time between September 11th and the second wave of "Keep America Rolling" advertising in which GM took credit for supposedly saving the economy with 0.0% financing, more people were killed in SUV rollovers than on September 11th. "Keep America Rolling" indeed ...)
(****)
=v= "Let's roll" has been in common use in the (*******)
U.S.since long before _The_Simpsons_. (*********)

Well, the phrase wasn't coined by the simpsons either. But someone saying that just shows that they've either never watched an episode of the show or completely misunderstand what they have seen. As I don't have to tell everyone here, the simpsons is one of the few families on TV they actually show going to church.
i swear the exchange leading up to this in Lisa the Vegetarian is one of my favorite simpsons moments. i'm on the floor every time i hear or think of it. "marge, tell bart ..." etc. i don't have the whole thing memorized, and i could find it on snpp and post it but i don't feel like it for some reason. hilarious!
I just said that after reading the recipe for egg nog. I knew is was gross, but now I know why I can only handle half a dixie cup of tho stuff. Whooorrrrrrf!!!

"D'oh!" is definitely in first place, followed probably by "Meh."
When someone speaks to me and I don't quite catch what's being said, I can usually be counted on to reply with either "You shot who in the what, now?" or "Yeah, you can use it!" It's a bad habit.
If my wife accuses me of not listening, I'll often come back with "Sure, they will."
In both February and March, I have been known to complain of the "lousy Smarch weather."

Ah, yes, the "not listening". When my wife starts going on about some scientific stuff that I will never understand, I make a sound like a flute, increasing pitch from low to high, and I move my hand away from my head, and sometime I even say "you can stay, but _I'm_ leaving".
I don't use "yoink," but on second thought, it occurs to me that I probably use "okely-dokely" at least as often as I use "Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter," if not more so.

How about Embiggens? Its a very cromulent word you know.
Here is a fave since Im stationed in Utah. Halloween episode, Kang and Kotos are at the door and Homer opens the door and slams it and says "Mormons"...
Al F 729th ACS HAFB, Utah I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.-Abe
I use "Yoink!" a lot, or Homer's angry "Cause if it did!". Then of course there is always D'Oh, Woo-Hoo, Meh, YARRRR!!!, and it's not exactly a quote but I'll do a Grandpa yell...the way he used to extend his words; like him yelling "Maaaaaattttlooooooccckkkk!!!!". I also tend to find random quotes that work into daily situations.

duh, i use Ha-Ha all the time too. at least 2 or 3 times a day. sometimes it's really, really funny and fits, other times i do it to amuse myself. like when i'm driving and i see someone got pulled over, i do a quiet "ha-ha" to myself in the car. i know it's not nice, cause being pulled over sucks, but i do it just to hear myself say "ha-ha," instead of meaning anything malicious to the person who got pulled over.
D'OH! Woohoo! Ha ha! Stupid <insert subject>, you go squish now! If you're going to get mad at me every time I do something stupid, then I guess I'll just have to stop doing stupid things! Mmmm... <insert noun>... Cat in the furnace. When are the pancakes coming in the mail? Excellent.
whenever i start enjoying something, like the first bite of something, or the first sip of a drink (or first drag when i used to be a smoker), i use patty & selma's "oohhhh Yeeaaaahhhh" like when they start smoking.
When my cat walks away from where I am sitting, I've been known to say, "so long, lamp".
