BBC's Radio 1 spoke with Nancy Cartwright, the voice of Bart Simpson in The Simpsons, who says a feature film adaptation of the popular Fox animated comedy series is moving forward.

"You know what? We've just done the table read for the 'Simpsons' movie so although we've been promoting that we're going to do it, now we're actually doing it and are in production," said Cartwright, who is in London for her one-woman show "My Life as a Ten Year Old Boy".

She said it will likely take at least two years to make. "I don't know the name of it and I can't go into details about it and we'll just have to see how it goes, but I think it's going to be great and the fans are going to dig it."

I can't imagine anything good coming from a movie. This could be a big mistake...

It depends on a few things, like who they can get to be in it, whether or not they overdo it with the musical numbers (expect at least one original song, for Academy Award consideration), and how long it runs (rarely do animated movies run longer than 80 minutes, and very rarely longer than 90).

Also expect a hook - for example, Maggie speaks "in public".

Seriously, it could be called "Homer takes a Dump" followed by a Test Pattern and it would be a 'hit', grossing a 150 million on its opening weekend. Anything "Simpsons" in movie form would be a hit by default, thus I'm not expecting anything special on the big screen.

The merchandising alone is going to rake in the bucks.

I don't doubt that it will be a huge hit and rake in a buttload of money. I just hope it doesn't cheapen the show at all. They've been on a slight decline since at least the 7th season. It may just be bad timing to try to make something so monumental.

A Simpsons Movie is monumental by default. Financially it WILL NOT fail.

Rumor says that it might come out in 2007.

I guess these guys (The Simpsons Writers) need to come up with the greatest story that i'll beat all of the 350 and continuing episodes.

Call me crazy, but do you think the ghost of Frank Grimes will show up in the film?
