Maybe they should have mentioned that. As it was, it was never explained why Bart was supposed to die.

Unlike Homer (or Peter Griffin) as Death, though, Discworld's Death doesn't actually kill people (except in THE COLO(U)R OF MAGIC, the first Discworld novel, before Pratchett had totally established his character).
