So being the jobless oaf that I currently am, I decided to amble on over to the local Best Buy to pick up the season 3 box and the LOTR DVDs this morning. The season 3 box was tagged $39.99. So I ask one of the brain dead people working there to check the price, assuming that it must be on sale and that it would be less. She checks it and tells me it's priced as marked, $39.99. WTF?? I know they always put these things on sale as soon as they come out. So I grudgingly pick one up because I can see they're already flying out of there, and figure I'll check around and if I find it cheaper, I'll return it unopened. So I shell out the $40 plus $20 more for the LOTR disc.
So I come home and check the Best Buy website. They have the Simpsons box advertised for $33.99 and the LOTR for $15.99. WTF?? I call the store and talk to another brain dead guy in the DVD area and inquire about the discrepancy and he tells me some horseshit about their website being a "different market". What? Okay. Whatever. Hang up, check back on the website and see that I can buy the disc online for in-store pickup for the $33.99 amount. Seems to be the same market to me. Call back and talk to someone at the service desk. I ask why it is that I can buy it online for 6 bucks less and walk in and pick it up, but if I buy it there I have to pay more. I also brought up the fact that the LOTR was more than advertised, and he tells me that they had the "wrong" price in the computer. He tells me to come pack and he'll refund the disputed amount, so I went back and got a refund of almost $11.00. Meanwhile, plenty of saps were walking out of there having paid way more than they should have.
