I'm not a stickler for continuity - if it's funny, go ahead: screw with the history, tinker with the characters, whatever.

BUT...

Lisa has a problem with riding horses all of a sudden?!?

Miss "I'm tempted to give up my religion for a pony"? Miss "I'll forgive my father for a pony"? Miss "the country club's OK because I can ride a pony"? Miss "I'm sure there are many others that I've forgotten but I'm at work right now so I can't visit snpp.com and look them up and I really shouldn't be spending the time posting this"?

This one bothered me, and it added nothing to the story.

Episode had some moments, I liked the song, but this bugged me!

Nah, she's always been into animal rights, and vegetarianism dosen't have much to do with horses. Lisa's always loved horses; it's part of her character. It would be as if Homer suddenly hated donuts.

Yeah, but there's livestock and then there's livestock. Horses are essentially pets - similar to dogs and cats, but more practical because they can be used for work. Unlike sheep, cattle, and swine, they're not raised specifically to be slaughtered, so even a shocking-pink liberal socialist commie vegan heathen shouldn't have a problem with raising and riding horses.

Animal rights activists who are against riding horses believe that animals have the same rights as people. If you bought a person and forced them to carry stuff around for you, you would be violating their rights. If horses have the same rights as people, then breaking/training them to be servants is akin to slavery.

Not saying I agree with that viewpoint, just trying to give you a clearer picture of where they're coming from.

I.e., they're nut jobs. The spam will really hit the fan when animals start voting.

In other words, he's not one of those people who "does nothing but complain about...a show WE hate...even though we continue to watch it", as you say.

As for the reason some of us continue to watch the show this season -- well, with the departure of Mike Scully most of us had hoped the show would improve. But last nights episode was a throwback to the nadir of the Scully years.

To sum up my take on me (which is the only one I listen to - take that my therapist!!!):

it's still my favorite show it still makes me laugh most of the stuff they do doesn't bother me as I often say, of course it's not as funny now as it was in Season 3, because no TV show has ever been as consistently funny as this show was in Season 3

but this one just seemed way out of character to no good end.

Now, I'm hungry. Who's up for liver and onions?
