Notes for NABF15 (The Ned-liest Catch)

Uh. All right. The most compelling part of the concept - whether Ned and Edna could actually work together because of his beliefs and her past - didn't really come out till the end. At least, unlike many other one-episode-only romances, these characters could conceivably stick together without making the future awkward, and Ned isn't quite as creepy as he was with Rachel Jordan. The gimmick of letting the audience decide is... interesting, but more in a cliffhanger sense than an audience participation sense.

DYN: ...Ned and Edna apparently never met before (do we have any good counterexamples)? ...the executive producers cue has a very season 1 feel to it?

DORIS WATCH: that's 3 in rapid succession! HABF15, JABF02, KABF06, LABF08, MABF12, NABF11, NABF13, NABF15.

Goof Ned refers to himself and Maude having slept in separate (and widely separated) beds - which was never true before.

Watch out for repeats I would figure the end segment will be taken out in future airings, or at least in syndication (since some repeats may occur before the contest closes). Possibly the final scene will have a new ending, and given the unusual opening, there may be a full version we get to see in the future.

I thought Rod and Tod went to that school too, though at the moment I can't think of ever seeing the pair there. But yes, Flanders being on the PTA there would indicate the kids go there.

There is also the episode with (mummble, mummble) Tanzarian. I seem to recall Flanders became principle for a while. Or maybe some other episode.

Indeed, Edna knew Flanders from the PTA episode, but for the purposes of a later-simpsons plot line their introduction made perfect sense. For me, narrative became clearly less important after season 10 or so (to the detriment of the show as a whole), thus my patience with one- episode wonders like this. I don't want to sound like someone apologizing for the decline in quality over the years, but I almost view the simpsons of the 2000's as a different show completely than that of the 90's classics. aj
