Hating the Simpsons

It's so very sad.

I'm a big fan of the show, then and now. My looks is that although now the fab five can be annoying at times, back in the beginning they could be hopelessly na�ve at times. But it's still funny - I think.

So, I subscribed to this newsgroup a few weeks ago, because I thought it'd be neat to find a great group of people much like myself - throwing Simpsons-quotes left and right at given occasions, and snickering at all their shennanigans. Instead, I find a group, torn open by a group of people who think the Simpsons WERE great the first couple'a seasons, but now they're stupid, annoying, and should be killed (not even just cancelled, eh?). And those people, mind you, apparently have nothing better to do than to keep posting useless messages about how much they hate how the show's become.

Maybe I'm the na�ve one. I figured a group named "alt.tv.simpsons" would be for the fans of the show.

But still I suggest that a sub-group is made. Thus, we can have two groups, and none of us will have any reason to bicker!

"alt.tv.simpsons" - For the people that thinks the show was and is great, and laugh at the jokes, discuss it in a positive way, and don't spend all their time complaining about how much better season 1, 2 and 3 were.

"alt.tv.simpsons.the-way-we-were" - For the people who thinks the show got old after season 8 (or whatever), and thinks it should be killed off. They'll have eager discussions, and they'll all agree. And most importantly, people who still like the show won't have to get their coffee down the wrong throat at seeing posts labled "Burn the Simpsons" or "Kill the show already"...

Every show has it's moments, usually the Simpsons have alot of 'em.

Every now n then you'll see that, mostly when a new season is around.

Yeah... most of the folks who make those threads like magically pop up, make the post, and leave never to be seen again. Just trolls, no big deal I suppose -- least they're no rob wade.

Unless you're counting "top posting" as a part of the the last point of the netiquette, I don't know what you're talking about. If it annoys you I'll certainly change my posting behaviour to suit your needs. That used to be the case here. Now that most of the old regulars who gave up on the newsgroup along with the show are gone, those days are gone, too.

Most of us found very little to snicker at after Season 9.

Let's face it - how much can you find to talk about after the show has been on as long as it has, and after all the episodes have been shown so many times in syndication that one can almost quote the dialogue as it is being spoken?

The times you're looking for are years in the past. The age group who finds the Simpsons funny or talk worthy these days aren't mature enough to carry on intelligent conversation. Their base response to something they don't like or agree with is "You suck!"

In other words you want a newsgroup where only opinions you agree with are allowed. I've seen such splits in a fandom before- they only make things worse.

Do not worry there are still Simpson lovers around. Take me for example. I think there have been some bad episodes and some not so good seasons, but when it comes down to basics, the only better comedy then The Simpsons is Gilmore Girls. For The Simpsons, I consider season nine one of the best, and I do consider The Principal and the Pauper one of the best of that season. Seasons 10-14 are really good seasons as well, but some bad episodes do come from that bunch. Even so, I still consider The Simpsons to be one of the best shows on Television. To get a sane discussion going, check my post farther down.

Okay, okay, so I'm a naive, whining, sorry sod. And no, I don't want a group where everyone agrees with me. And - let's just keep it to one group, no subs either.

I guess I was just starting to get a teeny bit frustrated after seing the 7th thread (imaginary number, I haven't actually counted) started asking for the show to be stopped. We get it! You hate it...So stop watching it! So, the reruns and DVD's will get tedious after a while, but if the show got cancelled, you'd be off the same, wouldn't you?
