Gilligan's Island

On an old "Gilligan's Island" episode, the castaways learn that a dangerous typhoon is headed for the island. They try to take refuse in a small cave, but find that there is only enough room for six of them. Gilligan volunteers to go out and brave the storm. The Skipper decides to go out and stay with Gilligan. One by one, all seven castaways leave the cave. When the typhoon hits, a bolt of lightning causes a huge boulder to crush the cave. All the castaways are safe as a result of not being in the cave.

If anyone is wondering "What has that got to do with The Simpsons?", they obviously have not seen the episode "Bart's Comet."

Did you ever see that episode where they almost get off the island, but giligan blows it for everyone?

The professor could have fixed the boat any time he wanted to. But that would have meant giving up being stranded on an island with Ginger and Mary Ann. I wouldn't want to be rescued either!

There was an episode of Gilligan's Island whose plot strongly resembles the plot of the Simpsons episode, "Bart's Comet." (Please see the first message in this thread for details.)

Did the Simpsons writers "borrow" the plot, or is it just a coincidence?

The same thing happened to Kelly Bundy on Married with Children. She auditioned for a show called "Peas in a Pod" and was rejected but the producers of the show modeled the show after the bundy's lives...classic episode...
